Center for Robotic Surgery Opens

LatestNews_RobotSurgeryA whole new world of minimally-invasive surgical options is now available to patients through San Antonio Community Hospital's Center for Robotic Surgery and the new di Vinci Si surgical system. SACH is the only hospital in the area with the di Vinci Si system -- the very latest generation of robot-assisted surgery technology. Di Vinci takes surgery beyond the limits of the human hand.

Robotic surgery allows physicians to perform more complex surgical procedures through small incisions no bigger than a dime. Through these 1-2 cm incisions, surgeons manipulate four robotic arms which mimic the surgeon's hand movements on a much smaller, more precise scale. Unlike previous generations of robotic technology, the new Si technology at SACH transmits images back to surgeons in 3D, high definition, and at a 10x magnification rate, allowing them to view greater detail and clarity than ever before. The Si has improved dexterity and range of motion far greater than even the human hand, and intuitive technology, which replicates the operative experience and control of open surgery by preserving natural eye-hand-instrument alignment and intuitive instrument control.
In addition to the benefits for surgeons, patients who undergo robotic surgery typically experience minimal blood loss, less pain and scarring, and shorter recovery times. Robotic surgery can be used for a variety of conditions, including treatment of gynecologic and urologic cancers and related disorders, and more.
